It all started with a spoon!
After the Vietnam War, locals in Napia (Laos) developed an ordnance recycling industry to give villagers a source of support above the baseline of subsistence agriculture. Napia invested in several small foundries, each run by a local family, capable of melting waste aluminum. The molten metal was poured into molds to create spoons that were sold and used to eat noodles soup (main dish of Laos).
